Meaning

Means "not to mention ~," citing a lesser item and emphasizing that even a greater one is so. Often followed by negative content.

Examples

1. 大けがで、歩くことはおろか、立つことさえできない。 With such a serious injury, walking is out of the question — he cannot even stand.
2. 彼は漢字はおろか、ひらがなも満足に書けなかった。 He could not write kanji, let alone hiragana.
