〜はもとより
Meaning
Means 「〜は言うまでもなく」 (needless to say): first mentions what is obvious, then indicates that the range extends to other things as well. A more formal, literary expression than 「〜はもちろん」.
Examples
- この温泉は地元の人はもとより、遠方からの観光客にも人気がある This hot spring is popular not only with locals but also with tourists from afar.
- 健康のためには、食事はもとより、睡眠も大切だ For health, not only diet but also sleep is important.
